Welcome to the official website of The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT), the regulatory authority with responsibility for the quality assurance of post secondary and tertiary education and training in Trinidad and Tobago.


Corporate Profile

The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) is a statutory body established by Chapter 39:06 as the principal body in Trinidad and Tobago responsible for the quality assurance of post secondary and tertiary level institutions, programmes and awards. The Act creating the Council was proclaimed in 2004, and the organisation was launched in November 2005. The Council currently operates three (3) offices. Its head office is located in Port of Spain, with sub offices in San Fernando and Tobago.

ACTT’s key functions include:


Governed by a Board of Directors and staffed by a cadre of professionals, ACTT is a key player in the development of the post secondary and tertiary education and training sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. ACTT assures the quality and integrity of higher education through the registration, recognition and accreditation of institutions and programmes.

ACTT is recognised regionally and internationally for its commitment to quality. It is affiliated with several international agencies for quality assurance in higher education including:

  • American Council for Education (ACE)
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ)
  • Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC)
  • Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE)
  • Commonwealth of Learning (COL)
  • Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) 
  • Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
  • International Association of Universities (IAU)
  • International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE)

ACTT is focussed on increasing awareness of quality assurance in tertiary education and, as such, remains committed to making information easily accessible to the public. ACTT’s outreach services include:

  • participation in career fairs
  • the Students Caravan Initiative that takes ACTT’s message and services to the public
  • the production of publications for distribution throughout the nation, including:
    • a Compendium of Registered, Accredited and Recognised Institutions, Awarding Bodies and Programmes that is updated regularly
    • a Journal of Quality Assurance in Higher Education

ACTT observes its annual Quality Assurance Month between October and November. The major aim of this is to sensitise the public to the importance of quality in higher education and to facilitate the exchange of ideas among key stakeholders. During Quality Assurance Month, ACTT hosts conferences, panel discussions, workshops and other events in collaboration with local and international partners to highlight higher education and quality assurance issues.
